Recommendations for Supplemental Oxygen

•The guidelines state to always use supplemental oxygen during moderate procedural sedation/analgesia unless specifically contraindicated for a particular patient or procedure.
-
The risk of a fire on or near the patient needs to be assessed and patient fires usually can be prevented.
-
Fires need an ignition source, but almost any material can burn in high concentrations of oxygen. Therefore, maintain the level of oxygen low near any ignition source, and be aware of the risk.
